Introduction

People are a vital business asset, and getting the human side of a business right leads to a competitive advantage. Human resource management is the strategic approach to the employment, development, training, retention and well-being of people.

As a human resource manager, you'll be vital to your company. You'll formulate policies that address key modern workplace issues such as flexible working, remote working and equality and diversity. You'll lead on a strategy to recruit and retain the right workforce.

With this degree, you'll get a head start on employability as you'll be able to apply for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) when you graduate, something that's often only available after postgraduate study.

Course highlights

  • Develop a holistic understanding of how businesses operate as you explore operations, business finance, marketing and data analysis alongside your human resource management modules
  • Gain the confidence to lead as you apply your learning to real-world situations and take part in our Business Consultancy Project
  • Practise your skills by setting up recruitment campaigns and getting involved in simulated interviews, selection panels and employment tribunals
  • Learn the human resource management skills you need in a post-Covid world, focusing on workforce retention and talent management, managing equality and diversity and developing creativity and business improvement
  • Be taught by a team of practitioners with entrepreneurial, academic and industry experience who are part of a dedicated Organisation Studies and Human Resource Management research group.
  • Benefit from an active programme of specialist and industry talks
  • Increase your employability with an optional paid placement year at a company such as IBM
