Introduction
Bachelor of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering
The McKetta Department of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering is designed to deliver a practical hands-on, rigorous learning experience that has consistently yielded national award-winning, sought-after graduates. Accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the program supports minors in Bio-Process Engineering and Environmental Engineering and offers elective courses in Biochemical Engineering, Bio- Separations, Plant Management, Polymer Engineering, Pharmaceutical Processes, Energy Engineering and numerous undergraduate research projects.
The Experience
Guided by faculty with engineering work experiences from industry-leading companies such as Pfizer, Shell Oil, Koch industries and doctorates from Yale, Rice, Michigan State and Wayne State Universities, chemical engineering students benefit from a truly exceptional experience. The department faculty makes sure that students obtain the skills and preparation that are needed to be successful in their future professional and academic careers.
Students will typically have multiple work experiences through professional internships or Co-ops before they graduate. In addition, students are exposed to numerous plant trips, professional and academic speakers, and have an industrial mentor.
Program Outcome
The Results
Students in the program have won ten national awards in the last five years. Recent graduates have succeeded in both large, Fortune 500 companies such as DuPont, Pfizer, and Parker as well as small regional companies. Typically about 20% of our graduates pursue academic or research professions by continuing their formal education in graduate schools. In the last five years, we have placed graduates in schools such as Yale, Notre Dame, University of Michigan, and the Indiana University Medical School.
