Experiential Learning/Internships
During your undergraduate studies, you’ll have a number of hands-on opportunities to gain real-world experience.
Case Competitions
Case competitions are one of our most popular opportunities for accounting and other business majors. A case competition starts with a fictitious or real “problem.” Students then work individually or in teams to identify possible solutions and present them to a panel of judges. Each competition provides incentives for both the winners and participants, in addition to earning an ExEL unit credit.
Internships
In addition to case competitions, accounting majors enjoy exclusive internships at companies like Kaufman Rossin, CPA & Advisory Services, H&CO, S. David & Associates, United Data Technologies, and more. You’ll also have access to our Corporate Speaker Series, workshops, and employer networking events, which bring you face-to-face with leading organizations and Fortune 500 executives.
Dual Admission
Reserve your seat in one of NSU’s graduate or professional schools while you earn your bachelor’s degree. With NSU’s Dual Admission program, you don’t have to worry about competing with thousands of other students for a spot in a highly selective graduate program. The Premier Program gives you an opportunity to get a head start on your career, so you can start earning sooner.
Career Opportunities
Become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Get Your MBA
Accounting professionals are in high demand, with jobs expected to grow at a steady pace throughout the next several years.
With an accounting degree, you have a lot of flexibility in the job location. You can also devote your career to an area you’re interested in (e.g. tax accounting, cost accounting, forensic accounting, etc.). Some accounting graduates pursue careers as internal accountants, auditors, financial analysts, financial advisers, and other related roles. Others go on to pursue a Master of Accounting degree and CPA in order to take their career to the next level as managers, directors, controllers, and CFO’s. NSU’s master’s program seamlessly guides you through the additional 30 credits beyond the Bachelor of Science in Accounting to satisfy the CPA requirements. If you want to sit for your CPA exam as soon as possible, then you’ll love NSU’s “4+1” accelerated program.
Average Starting Salary
According to a 2020 report from Salary.com, accountants with a bachelor’s degree make an average of $53,332 - $56,146 per year. This is a degree that comes with great earnings potential. With a master’s degree and CPA license, you’ll have opportunities to earn much more.
Shark Destinations
You’ll find NSU accounting alumni at companies like PwC, Kaufman Rossin, H&CO, Global Advisors, Brown & Brown, and Eddy CPA Advisory & Solutions. They hold titles such as staff accountant and public accountant.*
