In your core courses, you’ll learn research methodology, get hands-on laboratory experience, and gain assessment and evaluation skills.

Psychology Program Details

A generalist model designed to prepare students for a variety of fields within psychology as well as in related disciplines, the Psychology program places heavy emphasis on preparing students for graduate study and developing those skills necessary to function effectively in a field that is based on empirical research.

As a Psychology major, you'll learn about major research findings, be introduced to the nature of scientific inquiry in the field, and use empirical applications to understand human behavior.

Through careful consultation with department advisors, you can tailor your education to expose you to experiences in specialty areas such as clinical, counseling, developmental, educational, social, and organizational psychology.

Emphasis is given to psychology as both a natural and social science within the framework of a liberal arts and sciences education. Students are encouraged to pursue double majors and minors.

The department works closely with the sociology, criminology, and social work programs through sharing both faculty and resources where reasonable and possible. This arrangement has worked well for two important reasons: it enhances the student’s career opportunities, and it allows for a diversity of curricula and faculty.
