The purpose of the Bachelor's Degree in Sociology is to analyze contemporary societies and the collective phenomena that occur in them, studying their structure, their diversity, their processes of change, their trends, their needs and problems, the factors that originate and the answers that allow addressing them. As part of this purpose, the Degree also provides skills for social research through knowledge of the methods and techniques necessary to carry out these analyses. Thanks to the training that the degree provides, sociologists are trained to approach the study of reality from a global, reflective, rigorous and critical perspective, essential for understanding the processes that take place in societies. current. The broad and multidimensional training provided by Sociology is of great value and usefulness in different professional fields (public administrations, private companies, non-governmental organizations, associations and research centers, among others) where the ability to analyze and understand complex phenomena is necessary. that today are presented in new ways: social impact of crises, inequality, depopulation, migratory processes, social participation, employment dynamics, health problems, gender gaps, polarization, changes in public opinion, sustainable development. Currently, the objectives set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the need to face, among others, the social challenges caused by the recent health crisis, make the contribution of Sociology professionals essential to respond to the needs of society and the demands of different institutions. The opportunity of Sociology is evident in the current context, also contributing to respond to the challenges of the future. The new Study Plan incorporates the possibility of taking MENTIONS from the third year (they will be activated in 2024/25): itineraries that reinforce knowledge in three fields of knowledge of great relevance for Sociology today: Mention in Welfare Society and Public Policies : in this field, sociological activity includes the design, planning, management and evaluation of public policies aimed at improving the quality of life and well-being of the population. The itinerary enables to analyze the causes, situations and forecast of collective phenomena, guiding the management of public resources for the development of policies that contribute to the well-being of societies. The sociological analysis made available for the orientation of public policies is essential to efficiently address the complexity of the new social realities and contribute to the well-being of society. Mention in Sustainability, Cohesion and Social Intervention : taking into account the challenges of a social nature set by the 2030 AGENDA and the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), this itinerary enables the proper analysis of social problems and imbalances (socioeconomic, socio-spatial imbalances , generational, among others), in order to develop intervention proposals that, from public, private and third sector spheres (administrations, non-governmental organizations, organizations, foundations) manage to promote greater sustainability and cohesion in societies. Mention in Sociocultural Studies : this itinerary focuses on the critical study of social aspects related to communication, knowledge and culture (knowledge and power, impact of visual and virtual culture, fragmentation of collective identities), as well as on the key processes of social change (social conflicts, mobilizations, participation). This mention aims to train socially committed sociologists to promote initiatives and projects in different fields that contribute to generating changes in the sociocultural reality. Students who so wish can also take this study plan without making any mention. -
