Politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) are central to understanding how modern societies are organised and governed. By studying them together you'll gain a combination of skills that’s in high demand across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Whilst PPE has been described as ‘the degree that runs Britain’, this combination is better viewed as the study of how countries are run, what motivates and constrains their rulers and residents, and how social order and prosperity are best understood and promoted. All three disciplines are presented in up-to-date form, covering alternative as well as ‘mainstream’ approaches and firmly rooted in the real world. -

The central objective of the degree in Economics is to train professionals capable of carrying out tasks of analysis, assessment, advice and management of economic affairs in general. Said tasks may be carried out in the spheres of the private, public or mixed sectors, either in companies or institutions, of a national and international nature, of economic and social relevance. The graduate in Economics must know the principles of action; the structure of the processes of generation and distribution of wealth, income or surplus; alternatives for the allocation of resources; the rules and consequences of the operation of economic systems and institutions, all of this, in order to be able to contribute to their optimal and efficient operation. In short, the graduate in Economics must be able to identify and anticipate the appearance of relevant economic problems in any situation; to promote discussion and obtain alternative scenarios that facilitate the solution of such problems; to select the most appropriate solutions to the objectives pursued, as well as being able to critically self-evaluate them. The student who wishes to access the Graduate in Economics studies at UNED should have a good disposition for abstract reasoning, and feel comfortable with the use of logic in the development of simple models on the behavior of economic agents. (individuals, companies and the State), and the interaction between them. Likewise, you must be comfortable with the use of economic reality analysis tools to understand the why and how of economic phenomena. In this sense, a strong sensitivity for social issues is of great help to approach the study of these phenomena. As far as logical reasoning is concerned, the ability to establish and describe relationships between events is valued in particular, identifying the causes and evaluating their consequences. Regarding abstract reasoning, the ability to separate the causes from the consequences and to extract the most relevant aspects when addressing a problem and its solution is particularly valued. All of this is done if the new student has an entrepreneurial spirit, an open mind to new ideas and concepts, and an obvious enthusiasm for learning and applying their knowledge. -
