Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering

General

Program Description

Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) is one of the leading universities in the Middle East in the field of Mechatronics Engineering. The Mechatronics Engineering program was launched at PPU in 1997. Where Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field of engineering that integrates mechanical, electrical, computer and control engineering to design and create innovative and intelligent systems and consumer products that help in improving people’s lives. Students enrolled in the program need to study 163 credit hours distributed over 10 semesters (five years).

This program combines courses in mechanical engineering and electrical and electronic engineering together with courses in computing, mechatronics, and control. It includes the study of design, microcontrollers, programming, electronics, sensors, actuators, signal processing, and control. There is a strong focus on design implementation and project work throughout the program.

Program Structure

The first two years of the program are almost identical to all bachelor programs in Mechanical Engineering Department, with a strong emphasis on design and engineering science fundamentals and basics of electronics. This enables students to build a solid foundation and core skills and knowledge in mechanical engineering.

In the third year, students study a mix of mechanical and electronic and electrical engineering courses. In the fourth and fifth years, the program focuses on the control systems courses and courses in the mechatronics area. Furthermore, in the fifth year, the student has to submit a graduation project to fulfill the program requirements.

Program Outcomes

Graduates of the program will:

  • Demonstrate an ability to select and apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mechatronics engineering to broadly-defined engineering activities including proficiency in mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, and automation.
  • Demonstrate an ability to conduct standard tests and measurements; to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments; and to apply experimental results to improve processes.
  • Demonstrate an ability to design systems, components, or processes for broadly-defined engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate an ability to identify, analyze, and solve broadly-defined engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate an ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.
  • Demonstrate an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and nontechnical environments, and demonstrate an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.

Professional Career after Graduation

Future jobs for Mechatronics graduates are diverse. Examples of possible professions are:

  • Maintenance, operation and design engineers at the industry.
  • Service engineers for Mechatronics products and equipment.
  • Marketing officers for Mechatronics products.
  • Research engineers.
  • Computer-aided design and manufacturing in the industrial sector.
  • Automated production systems.
  • Municipalities.
  • Management Engineer.
  • Control Engineer.

Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) has witnessed quantum leaps in a short three-decade time during which it had been developed from a community college with few scattered buildings and limited programs to a full entrepreneur University with several colleges offering graduate and undergraduate programs. The University’s diversified academic programs were not only tailored responding to the community needs, but they have also been developed qualitatively to compete in national and regional dimensions. Development on the level of research and community services provided have also been witnessing major leaps in the establishment of several multi-disciplinary centers of excellences that possess quality-certified laboratories and facilities that are capable of providing professional standardized testing and consultancies to various national development sectors.
