Introduction
Dr Christie Boxer leads the Sociology program, which includes core courses that expose you to the scientific study of human society and develop your “sociological imagination,” and elective courses, such as Marriage & Family, Sex & Gender, and Race & Ethnicity, through which you will learn to understand and apply sociological concepts to the world outside of the classroom. Our courses teach you to analyze how social influences affect the behaviour of, and interaction among, groups, organizations, institutions, and nations.
Beginning in your junior year, you will develop, conduct, and present an independent research project on a topic of your choice. Through our curriculum, sociology majors build the skillset most desired by employers, including analysing data and communicating findings, understanding complex situations, making practical solution recommendations, and working with and appreciating diversity. Our graduates are well-prepared for graduate school or employment in the many fields of social service and management.
