Introduction
Bachelor of Arts in Social Science
All students in the Social Science major take a set of common core courses designed to introduce them to the elements of theory and methodology in the Social Sciences, in addition to an exploration of various issues and aspects of the modern world. They are also expected to conduct some independent research and write a dissertation in the chosen subject area. Students also have the opportunity to attend and help organize MUIC Social Science conferences and to participate in seminar discussions. The whole program is subject to regular review so that course materials and content can be improved. Critical and original thinking are encouraged and a consultative relationship between faculty members and students is fostered.
MUIC is a multicultural institution of higher learning inasmuch as faculty and students come from the Southeast Asian region and around the world. Courses are conducted in English by full-time, part-time and visiting experts in international affairs. Student participation and critical thinking are encouraged in pursuing specialized research interests as well as through their undergraduate studies.
The Social Science Major offers three concentrations, International Studies, Southeast Asian Studies and Modern World History, in addition to minors in International Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Modern World History, and Psychology.
