Internships
A requirement of all majors the Social Science Practicum course gives students the opportunity to intern at a wide variety of government agencies and non-profit organizations. This invaluable “field work” gives Allen students and alumni a leg-up on the rest of the job field.
Students have worked at the South Carolina Statehouse, the Red Cross, the Department of Social Services, the N.A.A.C.P., the Department of Health, the Ronald McDonald House, the Department of Justice, various political campaigns, and far beyond.
Social Science upperclassmen enrolled in practicum courses are required to complete at least 80 hours of internship service per semester. In some cases, these internships have resulted in offers of further internship service and full-time employment
Research
All seniors are required to research and write a journal-quality paper on a sociological issue. All research projects are completed under the supervision of Social Science faculty.
Recently, two Social Science students from Allen University were listed as research assistants and co-authors of an article published by an Allen faculty member in a peer-reviewed journal.
