One of the most popular courses at the University of Malta is the BA (Hons) which is offered by one of the largest Faculties with a student population totalling some 1,300. There are sixteen different areas of studies. -

We need only look around us to see the negative impact of human conflict on an international and national scale, as well as within our own communities. The program seeks to understand the reasons for confrontation and violence on all levels and, by understanding, to find ways to transform or prevent destructive conflicts. -

The BA-program Society, Media, and Politics (SMP) integrates the social sciences necessary to tackle the key challenges of our globalized world in a digitized context. Sociology, media studies, and political sciences are learned from a problem-solving and research-oriented, student-centered perspective. -

The Social Studies Education program is designed to parallel Social Science and History with special emphasis on teaching techniques needed by candidates for Education Certification at the elementary and secondary levels. -

The social sciences explore how societies function and look at the institutional frameworks which underpin them, examining issues such as crime, immigration, gender, consumer culture, human rights and the environment. -

This course will introduce social pedagogy, an inclusive and holistic approach to well-being, learning and growth. Social pedagogy is an approach to caring for children and young people which combines education and care, emphasising that bringing up children is the shared responsibility of families and society. A key principle is that the young person is in charge of their own life, and you work alongside them. This course is endorsed by the Social Pedagogy Professional Association (SPPA). You'll also gain an understanding of children's laws and rights and the importance of safeguarding. Studies also include child development, life transitions, ethics and diversity, and relationship-based professional practice. You'll become familiar with the range of services for children and young people. Through two work placements, you'll apply your learning in real practice settings to make a difference in young people's lives. Placements will be in settings such as youth justice, early intervention, health services, schools and children's centres. We also give you the option to find your own placement with children and young people in a field you feel personally passionately about. During your three years, you will benefit from the expertise of lecturers and professionals from a number of different disciplines. You will be encouraged to explore different ways of working through creative workshops whilst developing your employability skills. Your research skills and creative abilities will be developed to produce exciting ideas to benefit children, young people and their families. The Bachelor in Development of Societies and Territories offers a multidisciplinary training combining theoretical lessons in human and social sciences with courses, practical workshops and internships that prepare for a commitment to action. -

Students who pursue the major in Social Sciences gain a broad-based education that includes experience with at least three of the principal social science disciplines: Economics, History, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology. -

In the Race and Ethnic Studies (REST) department, we study the complex and often challenging issues of race, ethnicity, and racism from an interdisciplinary perspective. Faculty and students work closely to explore: How have race and racism shaped America from its foundation to today? How have social justice movements transformed the meaning of American democracy? How does race matter today in the age of Trump? Race and Ethnic Studies prepares our students to thrive in an increasingly diverse and global American society. -
