A Bachelor of Arts (BA) is a degree that is given to students who successfully complete a three or four year program at a university or other educational institution. It honors focused study and specialized knowledge on a subject.

Development studies provide knowledge linking to global development processes and their inter-relationship from a multidisciplinary, social science perspective. Central questions that are addressed include theories of development and underdevelopment, globalisation and the international economic system, foreign assistance, North-South relations and the poverty problem.

Education in the United Kingdom is a devolved matter with each of the countries of the United Kingdom having separate systems under different governments: the UK Government is responsible for England, and the Scottish Government, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive are responsible for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.

This programme combines the study of East Asian languages with the study of East Asia-related subjects in various disciplines. Compared to the existing single-subject BA East Asian Studies degree, there is less emphasis on language learning. Compared to the existing 2-degree BA Chinese/Japanese/Korean and… degree, there is more space to study East Asia-related courses in a range of disciplines. The programme also differs from the existing offerings in that there is no year abroad included. The programme will be attractive both to students who wish to study East Asia-related subjects without a strong emphasis on language and to students who wish to work at an advanced language level within a more traditional framework, as it is offered at most other universities. Additionally, the nature of the Combined Honours Degree enables you to develop a specialist niche for yourself by studying another subject. -

The programme is a 4-year BA (Hons) in Criminology and Sociology. The course is aimed at students who are interested in criminal justice but for whom the broader disciplinary span of sociology is also attractive. A distinctive focus across the programme as a whole is on facilitating the development of a criminological and sociological ‘imagination’. This entails not simply the acquisition of foundational principles, concepts and theories, but a sustained emphasis on thinking with such ideas and approaches through the development of heightened critical reflexivity. -
