Introduction
Take your first steps in digital content creation
This is a 4-year degree which includes a preparatory first year as part of the BA Digital Content Creation course. This 4-year option will suit you if you want more time to develop your skillset before starting year one of your undergraduate degree or if you do not fulfil the entry requirements of the 3-year course.
Your tutors will nurture your creative potential while you develop the skills you need to confidently enter the undergraduate study. You will develop communication, professional and entrepreneurial skills alongside research practice and ways of thinking that are essential to your continued success.
Digital Content Creation (with Foundation Year) is not a standalone course: it is the first stage of a full four-year undergraduate degree.

Curriculum
Year 0
The Foundation year is a preparatory year as part of the four-year BA (Hons) Digital Content Creation
Year 1
In the first year, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of marketing, as well as experimenting with photography, video, podcasting, website design and copywriting.
You'll be introduced to the principles of graphic design and how it relates to branding. You'll also look at how search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques can be used to enable an audience can find their desired content.
You will also explore the legal and ethics of the digital world, and consumer psychology, and begin to pitch for work with clients.
Modules covered:
- Introduction to marketing and digital - laying the theoretical foundations of marketing.
- Visual content production - creating photography and video content.
- Professional life practice: skills analysis, goal setting, legal and ethical considerations in the digital world.
- Promotion and communication design - introduction to graphic design and its relation to marketing.
- SEO and creative content production - copywriting, podcasting, SEO, and website creation.
- Professional life practice - industry news, portfolio creation, and working with clients.
Year 2
In the second year, learners will build on their skills from their first year and take a deeper dive into social media marketing and how to can develop a strategy for a brand.
You'll explore more advanced video production techniques, including motion graphics and animation, to enhance your storytelling skills. You'll apply user research and use design skills to create a prototype of an app.
Throughout your second year, you'll be working on building your professional connections, as well as keeping up with industry news and changes. You will undertake an invaluable industry placement which will further support your skillset and provide you with real-world knowledge of the industry.
Modules covered:
- Social media marketing - a deeper dive into creating a strategy for social media.
- UX and app prototyping - user research and basic app prototyping.
- Professional life practice - networking and industry links: creating content for clients.
- Visual storytelling - working with more advanced filming and editing, motion graphics, and basic animation.
- Work placement - getting valuable experience by working in the industry.
Year 3
Your third year will be focused on bringing the best of your skills together and getting them ready for life beyond Ravensbourne.
You will respond to client and/or competition briefs and work collaboratively with your peers. You will prepare your portfolio; showcasing the best of your creations, boosting your employability and demonstrating clearly that you are industry-ready upon graduation.
In your final semester, you will research and analyse an aspect of the future of the digital landscape – a future that you will have a hand in shaping. As well as this, you will plan a creative marketing strategy which is informed by audience insights, market analysis and your own production skills, and then you will bring it to life.

- Live briefs - working on live briefs for clients to create content as well as briefs set by D&AD New Blood Competition.
- Professional life practice - creating final portfolios and getting ready for life beyond Ravensbourne, industry news, and networking.
- Strategy, planning and creation - researching and planning a marketing campaign, and creating content that will engage an audience.
- The future of the digital landscape- researching into the digital future.
